My Current Home Practice: Perfectly Imperfect

If you’d asked me a few years ago what a “good” yoga practice looked like, I probably would’ve rattled off something like; 60 minutes of real solid movement and a sense of physical “progress.”

But these days, my home practice looks - and feels - quite different.

It’s alot less about achieving and more about landing. And I do it because it feels pretty great, not because I feel I “should.”

A Slow Start

I’ve learnt over time that I really need a soft start to function well, mentally, physically. So, my mornings begin without my phone, always a walk in nature (because - dog!) and a gentle yoga or pilates session before I settle into work. It’s non-negotiable because it shifts the energy of my whole day.

Structure is… Tricky

I’ll be honest - I don’t thrive under strict schedules. The 9–5 rhythm isn’t always the easiest ride for me. I crave fluidity and space, and when I feel boxed in, my nervous system tends to shout about it.

So, my practice has adapted to support me, not add pressure. I aim for five days a week, but not for long, usually just 20 to 30 minutes. Enough to feel the shift without tipping into obligation.

Sometimes it’s a few rounds of intuitive movement.
Sometimes it’s pilates.
Sometimes it’s somatics.
Sometimes it’s shaking about.

Running Less, Regulating More (But Still Lifting Things!)

I used to run a lot - literally and figuratively. Pushing through. Powering on. It took its toll. These days, my body asks for something else. So I listen.

I’ve swapped morning runs for lots of walking. But I still love incorporating weight training into my week, enjoying the mixture of softness and strength.

A Practice That Meets Me Where I Am

As it stands now, my practice isn’t fancy or particularly aesthetic at times. It’s flowy with all the feels.
